Life isn’t always perfect. You will have good days, bad days, and even sometimes bad weeks, but if you try to learn from even the bad times I think thats important. This week was one of those weeks that was one of the scariest I’ve had in my life. Luckily for me, the lumps they found in my breasts were NON cancerous and I thank God for that.
The day that I went in to find out the results, was the only day I really felt at peace. I had a little moment where I envisioned myself as a grandmother and I had a grandchild on my lap and I was showing them photos of their mom and said “Look how cute your Mom was!” to them. The rest of the day was just as magical. Mia had some beautiful light surrounding her all day as if it was a sign for me to know everything was okay and there was someone watching over me. I kept Owen home too because I wasn’t sure what the next Doctors appointment would hold and I wanted to have him with me before I found out. I was able to hear him clearer. I’m always listening to his stories and ideas he has but I heard him more clearly. I was more present in every word he said.
That’s what I want to take from all of this. Being present. Listening and reallllllly listening to what my kids have to say. The present is something we can’t get back and I never ever want to take it for granted. x0
When I think of Father’s Day, the first thing that comes to mind before spoiling my husband, father and father-in-law, is a great BBQ and drink to go with it! This year for Father’s Day, I’m putting together this delicious whiskey cocktail crafted by Wayne Gretzky Estates.
THE 99! A blend of Wayne Gretzky Cab Merlot and Wayne Gretzky Whisky. This whisky is distilled, matured and finished in red wine casks from the Gretzky winery. It makes the perfect accompaniment to the Wayne Gretzky Cab Merlot. Mix the two together with simple syrup and lime and the result is a smooth, rich and slightly sweet drink. Rick and I tested out this combination and we both agreed – it was perfect for our BBQ!
To go with our father’s day drink of choice, we’re are grilling some ribs, wings and sausages. The sides will be potato salad, caesar salad, and a veggie platter. Can’t forget dessert with locally made apply fritters and a fathers day cake. Tasty, simple and sweet!
Thinking this might be the perfect drink for your father’s day get together? Here’s how to make it:
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add 1½ oz Wayne Gretzky Whiskey
- Add 1 oz fresh pressed lime juice
- Add 1 oz simple syrup (for how to make simple syrup head to LCBO’s page here)
- Strain into a rocks glass with ice.
- Float with 1oz Wayne Gretzky Cabernet Merlot.
TIP – While I was taking Instagram stories of us making The 99 for the first time, a few people sent over the tip of using the back of a spoon to pour the wine before it hit the whiskey mixture. This allowed for the red wine to stay on top.
