Before you turn 1

Fashion, Motherhood

Dear Mia,

I’ve tried to start this blog many times but every time I begin tears come to my eyes. Happy tears. When I was pregnant with you, you gave me no trouble, even the delivery was calm.  You were placed in my arms and everything about you was perfect. You were a little small, weighing only 5lbs but even then you were strong. You laughed and smiled when you were days old! I couldn’t believe it! 🙂

As a newborn, you napped really well and slept really well and I am so grateful to you for that because it gave your big sister Ella some time to adjust to the idea of sharing mommy. Ella adjusted just fine and immediately took on the roll of your protector. She was only a year and a half when you were born and would hook her arm around your carrier when anyone would try to come near you if we were out and about. She would lock arms with your carrier and point to me as if to say “don’t come any closer. That’s our mom.” She protects you to this day and is the first one to your side if your sad and greets you with hugs and kisses in the morning.

Your brother Owen was the first to hold you besides your parents and he immediately asked for me to take a photo of him holding you so that he could show his classmates. He named you peanut. He also calls you his “happy baby” and has said “oh Mia, you’re so cute!” about 1 million times. He is very fond of you.

Your eyes light up when your Dad walks in to the room and you are the first one to greet him when he gets home. He told me that his favourite thing about you is that you’re always happy and he loves the little sounds you make when he gets home from work. You’re always excited to see him.

You and I really started to bond when we began sleep training with you. Around 6 months old you started staying up later and later until you and I were watching episode after episode on the couch until midnight. I figured at first it was because you were made in Italy and it was simply in your blood to want to eat and stay up late but mommy was really tired so we had to make some changes to your schedule. Our nighttime routine started with me giving you a bath and I started to see so much more of your personality. You are 100% a water baby and you will splash and get water in your face and eyes and none of it bothers you. I call you my little minnow.

You are still eating purées and your favourite combination is fresh avocado & banana. When you’re tired, you rub your tiny nose in to my face or in to my shoulder. You are a mommy’s girl and hunny I’m a Mia’s girl. There is no bad day when I’m with you. When I think of who you might be and what you might become when you’re older I’m still so unsure. Owen as a baby was always interested in blocks and building and figuring out how things worked. My guess would be he will be a engineer or an architect or perhaps a scientist. Ella as a baby only ate solids, fed herself and would read book after book. She is miss independent and pretty well runs our household. My guess is she may be prime minister. You on the other hand my love I just don’t know yet. What I do know is that you have the ability to make everyone’s day better. You bring so much happiness to everyone around you. You give smiles freely, even if you may not get a smile back. Your soul is so pure and your heart is so big, I will do everything I can to protect it. People like you are like little angels placed on earth and I don’t know who you will become but I know you’ll be one of those people who everyone will be happy to know and glad they have come across. You have made our world so beautiful Mia Rose.

Happy Birthday sweetheart.

Mia's Birthday Celebration

There are so many things I want to say in this blog about how Mia but I will save it for my love letter to her “before you turn one” blog post.

Together with Two Oceans and Handmade Jungle

Motherhood

When planning a night in for friends, my recipe includes excellent food, great wine and a fun activity. Luckily for me, my friend Melissa is a party stylist & founder of Party Girls Co and can make my recipe look beautiful too. 😉

Since both of us are big in to entertaining, we were happy to try out Two Oceans 1.5L varieties of Sauvignon and Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot wines. Both light and easy to drink these are the perfect wines to offer at your next get together and at $17 a bottle, they are value friendly.

Our activity for the evening was a craft put together by DIY expert Victoria Stacey of Handmade Jungle. I painted a heart on my wine glass and Melissa being the fancy little lady that she is created a jewel inspire wine glass. The best part was the laughs and stories shared while creating our masterpiece wine glass artwork. We ended the evening sitting by the fire with Melissa’s hubby and chatted about our week and what we had planned. A night in with good friends beats a night out in my books.

If you are planning on entertaining this march break or have plans in place for St Patty’s day, the 1.5L bottles by Two Oceans make entertaining a breeze! I’m planning a green themed Sangria Party for St Patty’s!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

***Please drink responsibly***

Our home away from home in Pompano Beach

Fashion, Food, Motherhood, Travel

The year that I was born, my parents purchased a time share in Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale.  My mom propped me up and took photos of me as a baby in every room of the home. She was so excited to be by the water with her new baby and I have to say it’s the same feeling I get when I bring my kids.  We didn’t bring Owen this time because he didn’t want to miss school. He’s my very responsible little man that the girls and I missed very much.

I spent the week putting one babe down for a nap and picking the next one up to play in the pool. They were both up incredibly early every morning (insert that monkey hiding his eyes emoji) and so we had first dibs at the ocean waves every morning. The girls waking me up at 5am would typically send me in to a mood lol but being there in the warmth and water made it all okay.

Some of you have told me you are headed to Fort Lauderdale for March break so I thought I’d put together a small list of our favourite restaurants in the area.

Our family favourite for food is Houstons. Right in Pompano Beach and it is located on the water. You can watch the boats go by and enjoy your meal with friends and family. They don’t have high chairs but you can bring in your stroller. The food for lunch and dinner is amazing!

For the kids I would suggest Mai-Kai Restaurant, especially if your girls are in to Moana. 😉 My little Ella is obsessed with that movie and she thought every girl working there was Moana! Lol! It was really cute. The food is good and you can walk around the Polynesian forest while you wait for the show to start.

Another restaurant we go to every year is the Pelican Grand Beach Resort restaurant. The back veranda is the perfect setting for a relaxing meal.

If you want to relax around the pool and take it easy the best seafood shop is The Fish Pedlar. You can grab fresh shucked oysters, shrimp and fish to cook at home.

Our life pretty much revolves around food, the pool and ocean while in Florida. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment below or email me at suzanne.e.toth@gmail.com 🙂

A Touch of Spring

Fashion, Motherhood

A week in Florida wasn’t enough. I miss the sun, the sand, the salty air… I think we should just pack up and head back. You can all let me know when spring has arrived and then I’ll make my way home, deal? 😉

Getting my head out of the clouds, we would miss the boys too much. I can’t force spring to get here sooner but it was nice to come home to new spring pieces that I had recently picked up from Urban Barn. I didn’t go over board on redecorating, even though I could have. I stuck to a budget and brought some light back in to our room until we have the real thing. You can get an idea of what they have in store by reading my post The New Spring Collection by Urban Barn.

I chose the pink pillows to accent the flowers in the vase on the side table. There were different arrangements they had to choose from but the colour pink makes me so happy, it makes me think of my girls. I also picked out a cozy throw, I’m obsessed with throws!! My husband might disagree, but I don’t think one can ever have too many. 😉

The tray I found was perfect. I knew it would go well with the other colours in my room and can be used for holding candles or most likely my morning coffee. The candles are another thing I can’t seem to have enough of in my home and I love the pastel colour of them.

Urban Barn helped me make simple changes that do great things for my mood. For now, waking up to these fresh colours will make me happy.

Have you started bringing a little more spring in to your home? 🙂
