My best advice to the next bride-to-be would be not to sweat the small stuff. Your wedding may not go exactly to plan, but in the end all that matters is saying “I do” to the love of your life. Everything else–whether it falls into place or not–doesn’t really matter!
We chose the wedding and ceremony to be at Firerock Golf Club because of the indoor-outdoor feel of the venue. Guests were served Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails out on the patio while we were having our photos taken. Once dinner began we were able to watch the sun set over the golf course. Owen had his favourite drink; a shirley temple and spent most of his time eating from the chocolate fountain that he requested. Big THANK YOU to Melanie from FireRock for helping us with every detail in making this the wedding of our dreams. For us, it was perfect.
The ceremony itself was exactly how I thought it would be–minus all the tears. I usually can keep it together, unless I’m talking about my children, but I found I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I couldn’t hold back the tears. As our minister was leading us through the wedding service, I really only remember the words Rick and I said to each other—Rick saying, “I just want to kiss you” , and me saying, “me, too”. I don’t think we were even paying attention to anything or anyone else around us until the moment when we said “I do”. Another part that I will always cherish is after the “I do’s”, we gave Owen and Ella each a ring of their own as a memento of our special day.
Having our kids by our side and a part of one of the biggest days of our lives made this day all the more memorable. I got ready with my bridesmaids, my mother and my sweet little Ella. Rick got ready with his friends, family and Owen. Owen did come in to see me a few times before the ceremony and we shared a really special moment together just the two of us before we walked down the isle. I still tear up thinking about it. I told Owen during my speech that he is the reason I found a wonderful man like Rick. I will always be grateful to Owen for making me a softer, more kind, and more patient person.
After the ceremony, reception, and heartfelt speeches, it was time to party! Surrounded by loved ones and beautiful flowers, we danced the night away as husband and wife!
Special thanks to our parents and the following vendors who made this a day we will never forget!
