Most of my childhood was spent playing on the beach as I lived in small beach town just outside of Sarnia called Brights Grove. When I was very little, my mom would take us for a stroll by the water almost every morning and  in my later teens, I would bike to the beach to meet my friends, bike over to work, bike back to the beach for a bonfire. Life was simple and sweet. My mother still lives in the house that I grew up in, this makes it easy for us to pop in and out with the kids to take a break from the heat when visiting the beach.

Heading to the beach, going for a long stroll or going out to grab a bite to eat, this dress from Figure8 Maternity is the perfect summer dress for this type of occasion. It’s light weight, unwraps at the top for easy access to baby if you’re nursing and pretty enough to wear anywhere. I love dresses that I can easily throw on and can style up or down. Luna Maternity & Nursing

My breastfeeding journey has been a complicated one. All of my babies were early and I think it contributed to them not feeding as much or as often and my low production of milk. I tried pumping and lots of skin to skin but unfortunately it didn’t last more than 2 months with any of my babies. Owen would fall asleep at my breast almost immediately, Ella was a awesome latch but my milk wasn’t coming in… and Mia…well, she has had a hard time feeding even from a bottle until not too long ago. What I have learned from this is to take the pressure off completely, never be afraid to ask for help, and most importantly, if breastfeeding isn’t working out, your baby will be just fine. You are NOT a failure.

I know some of you may be thinking that it’s easier said than done. It took me three babies and maybe all the #FedIsBest posts over social media to feel like I could talk about my struggle with breastfeeding. When my first Owen was born, I would have never posted a video or photo feeding from a bottle, fast forward to baby number 3 and you’ll see it all over my Instagram stories! 🙂

Lastly, you will still have that magical breastfeeding bond everyone talks about even if you’re not breastfeeding. With all my babies, I do lots of skin to skin and have been the one to feed them. I still want that one on one bonding time and instead of my breast they are getting a bottle. A little harder with two babies, but I still go upstairs to a quiet space and feed them and come back down to company or visitors.

I may be biased but look at this beautiful formula fed baby above, shes healthy and happy!! That’s all I could ask for! 🙂

Ritual Cafe

Three kids, and one business launch later, my world revolves around coffee. It’s the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last thing I think about before going to bed. My friend Yean and I are always on the hunt for new cafés to try here in London ON and she had been telling me how good the coffee was at Ritual Café. We made plans to meet with our kiddos one morning and I’ve been back at least once a week ever since.

On one of our coffee dates, I saw the chef take out different dishes and although we didn’t stay for lunch, I decided to return with a friend for brunch over that weekend. We sat down with our coffees and looked at the menu, everything sounded amazing. I couldn’t decide on one item, so I ordered two. I went with the walnut french toast that had a scoop of ice cream on top and another more traditional dish of eggs, bacon, toast, asparagus and hash browns. It was a lot of food but I had no problem finishing as it was all delicious!!

I left our brunch so impressed, I decided to get in contact with the owner Miljan and asked if I would be able to chat with him about featuring his cafe on my blog. We sat down one evening to chat, he told me about his restaurant prior to the café and how Ritual Café works better for family life. Before our chat was over, he stepped out briefly to give a homeless man a meal and I left feeling really good about featuring such a fantastic person and restaurant.

My family and I were invited in the following Saturday for brunch and we enjoyed our coffee, a portobello mushroom omelet, stack of delicious blueberry pancakes and of course Ella’s favourite breakfast item bacon! Ella ate most of it but Rick and I did get to enjoy what was left while she tried out all the cozy seating. As we left I said to Rick “Wasn’t this worth getting out of bed for?” 😉 Not often do we want to change out of our pj’s before 10am on a weekend but I’m sure even if we had strolled in in our pj’s no one would have minded – the staff is super kind and the food is so worth it.

Getting back in to shape with Jill Yoga

For almost six weeks, I counted down the days until I was able to start working out. As soon as the day arrived and my alarm went off at 5am, I immediately regretted setting it. I did make it to the gym but after being up with our 2 month old Mia a couple times that night, I quickly realized that this wasn’t going to work. First and foremost, I think it’s important to get adequate rest. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, your body won’t function properly and you won’t get the most out of your workout anyway.

I think being realistic and setting small goals is what is going to work for me. My plan is to workout at the gym when I feel up to it and that doesn’t mean not being able to burn calories. As you can see from the pictures, I’m dancing around the porch with my little babe which is still exercise in my books! We play follow the leader and when the weather permits, I’m chasing her around on the playground. I don’t want to feel bad about not feeling up to working out while I continue to recover from my pregnancy and sleepless nights -and you shouldn’t either! Baby steps everyone!! 🙂
